Willy Shine, the “brandmeister” for Mast-Jägermeister U.S., likes to point out that Jägermeister is basically a German amaro with a great deal of heritage behind it. “Jägermeister is a very versatile liquid to work within the realm of co*cktails,” he says.
Shine believes the two base spirits in this riff on an Old Fashioned make a perfect match. “Jägermeister and rye whiskey pair together harmoniously, so it was only natural to create a Jägermeister version” of the classic whiskey co*cktail, he says. “I love the spicy notes in this co*cktail, as well as the layers of flavor upon every sip.”
Ingredients
1 ounce Jägermeister
1 ounce rye whiskey
1 teaspoon maple syrup
1 dash Dale DeGroff’s pimento bitters
Garnish: orange twist
Steps
Add the Jägermeister, rye whiskey, maple syrup and bitters into a chilled Old Fashioned glass with ice and stir until well-chilled.
Express the oils from an orange twist over the glass and drop into the glass.
