Kanye West, who recently underwent experimental dental surgery to replace his teeth with titanium implants, sparked some concern when he took to Instagram in a short clip earlier this week.
The rapper was walking through an airport with his wife, Bianca Censori, as he defended posting her all over his social media pages but fans were distracted by a lump seemingly formed on his top lip.
Some concerned viewers feared for the rapper's health but a medical expert revealed that there are several potential causes for the “growth.”
Oral Health Foundation spokesperson Karen Coates told Daily Mail that it could be caused by “some form of dental trauma.”
She explained that “implant-supported dentures,” while solidly embedded in the mouth, can move around which would impact the surrounding tissues like the lips.

The registered dental nurse also listed sports injuries, snap-on teeth moving in the mouth and “trapping the lip” as other types of dental trauma that could potentially result in a similar lump forming.
Some fans were concerned that the lump was caused by more than an injury, with a myriad of potential illnesses or diagnoses flooding Ye’s Instagram comments.
Dr Praveen Sharma, scientific advisor to the British Dental Association, revealed that one of the most common medical causes behind lumps of the lip is a herpes infection but highlighted that it is often “harmless” and can clear itself up in time without treatment.
HSV type one, which is the strain of herpes that results in cold sores and mouth blisters, is incredibly common with John’s Hopkins Medicine reporting that 50 to 80 percent of American adults have it.

Dr Sharma continued, noting that blocked salivary glands can also cause similar swelling, which can change size depending on how much saliva is being produced such as during meal times.
While the most common causes behind lip swelling are unlikely to have long-lasting negative effects, Dr Sharma did warn the rapper that if the lump doesn’t go away within three weeks he should go to the dentist to “rule out cancer.”
Neither expert wanted to speculate which cause would be the most likely to be behind Ye’s new look.
Most fans believe the new lump is connected to the dental surgery he recently underwent, which reportedly cost him a staggering $850,000.
